Bermuda Fish Chowder (Bermuda)

For some reason it was cold and looking at this dish, I knew I wanted to make it. Unfortunately this dish was a bit of a let down.

I was super excited to make this dish, I was expecting a spicy savory wonderland based on the ingredients. Worcestershire sauce, jalapeno’s, clam juice! This was going to be bursting in flavor.

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 stalks celery, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 cups clam juice
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can peeled and diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 pound red snapper fillets, cut into 1 inch pieces

Alas it wasn’t meant to be. The end result was just alright, it had a fish flavor that I found overpowered the rest of the dish. It was comparable to a Manhattan clam chowder. If you are into that sort of thing, then you might like this dish. I wont make this again however. It did get better after sitting for a bit but not enough to warrant a change in my opinion.
